Abstract
On 15 December, Johan Norberg and other members from the Russia and Eurasia Studies Programme at the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI) will join RSI for a discussion on Assessing the Future of the Russian Military. FOI is renowned for their periodic 10-Year Perspective publications on Russian military capability.
Since their last edition in 2019, Russia’s war in Ukraine has provided the opportunity to evaluate previous assessments of Russian military capability in order to improve understanding of future Russian capabilities. This event will compare previous assessments to real-world demonstrations in Ukraine and explore how to effectively study and understand the capabilities of the Russian military.
Biography
Johan Norberg
Title: Senior Military Analyst Affiliation: Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI); Eurasia Fellow, Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI)
Johan Norberg is a Senior Military Analyst at Sweden’s Defense Research Agency (FOI), where he has worked for 24 years, examining developments in the Russian Armed Forces. He is also a Eurasia Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.
He is one of the world’s leading experts on Russian military affairs and has previously worked at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and in the Swedish Parliament, as well as served in Peace Support Operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, and the Middle East. His recent authored and co-authored publications include:
