RSI will host a panel of scholars to discuss Russian theory of deterrence, how it met the current war, and outlook for the future. Panelists include Katarzyna Zysk, Dima Adamsky, and Roger McDermott.
Biographies
Katarzyna Zysk
Title: Professor of International Relations and Contemporary History Affiliation: Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS)/Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC)
Katarzyna Zysk is Professor of International Relations and Contemporary History at the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies (IFS)/Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC) in Oslo. She has held positions as Deputy Director, Head of Centre for Security Policy, and Director of Research at IFS, as well as Acting Dean of the Norwegian Defence University College.
Her research focuses on security, defense, and strategic studies, including Russia’s armed forces, military strategy and doctrines, nuclear strategy, the Russian Navy, maritime security, and geopolitics in the Arctic. Her published research has appeared in SAIS Review of International Affairs, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, Journal of Strategic Studies, Asia Policy, RUSI Journal, and others.
Roger N. McDermott
Title: Visiting Senior Research Fellow Affiliation: Department of War Studies, King’s College, London; Research Associate, University of St. Andrews; Non-Resident Research Fellow, ICDS, Tallinn, Estonia
Roger N. McDermott is a leading authority on the Russian military. He is a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at King’s College, London, and a Research Associate at the Institute of Middle East, Central Asia, and Caucasus Studies (MECACS) at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He is also a Senior Fellow in Eurasian Military Studies at the Jamestown Foundation, Washington, DC.
McDermott publishes widely and frequently on issues related to Russian military strategy and military modernization.
Dmitry Adamsky
Title: Professor Affiliation: School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, Reichman University, Israel
Dmitry (Dima) Adamsky is a Professor at the School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy at the Reichman University, Israel. His research interests include international security, cultural approaches to IR, and American, Russian, and Israeli national security policies.
His books Operation Kavkaz and The Culture of Military Innovation (Stanford UP) earned annual prizes for the best academic works on Israeli security. His last book, Russian Nuclear Orthodoxy (Stanford UP), won the 2020 ISA best book award in the category of Religion and IR.
